GNRS 2018

69th Annual...

  • 2018 AMBR winner went to first time entrant Dave Martin and his 1931 Ford Roadster built by Hot Rods and Hobbies

This years Grand National Roadster Show known as the (GNRS) celebrated its 69th year in Pomona, California. Held at the famous Fairplex, the show is also home of the AMBR award "America's Most Beautiful Roadster". Sitting on 500 plus acres, the Fairplex is the perfect place for this show. Surrounded by the beautiful San Gabriel mountains in the far off distance (also known locally as Mt. Baldy) with its ample palm trees and great weather makes for a very scenic place to be. Also on grounds is the NHRA Museum, which is a must see especially if you're a drag racing fanatic.

For entrants to be eligible for the AMBR competition, the car must be a roadster. It must be based on a 1936 or earlier body style --- with a removable top, no roll up windows and a removable windshield, and must be able to move on its own power. The big prize at this show is the AMBR award, which has a payout cash prize of $10,000, along with the car and owners name being ethched on the huge AMBR trophy forever.

There's so much to see and do at this show, as you can't see it all in one day. You have three full days to cover the several buildings stuffed full of cars, plus all the cars outside for everyone to enjoy. There's plenty of food and beverage vendors on grounds to fill your tummy and wet your whistle. If you love music, they have a live band outside playing all your favorite hits from the 60's and 70's era. Also if you're into the Rock-A-Billy scene, they have one building full of customs, sleds, old style hot rods and vintage drag racing cars that all scream "Very Cool". They also have bands playing the Rock-A-Billy music all day long, along with vendors set up inside selling their various wares and items.

On Sunday afternoon around 4:00 P.M. is when the awards are announced. At 6:00 P.M. is when they award the AMBR winner, with everyone anxiously waiting for the winner to be announced. This years 2018 AMBR winner went to first time entrant Dave Martin and his 1931 Ford Roadster built by Hot Rods and Hobbies. Donned as "The Martin Special" it was a crowd favorite. There were many cars and trucks represented at this years GNRS show, with many being women owned.
